Carolina currently leads the Nation in 100% compliant departments. Click Here to view
the nationwide list.
The Pledge:
"I pledge to wear my seat belt whenever I am riding in a Fire Department vehicle. I
further pledge to insure that all my brother and sister firefighters riding with me wear
their seat belts. I am making this pledge willingly; to honor Brian Hunton my brother
firefighter because wearing seat belts is the right thing to do."

Fire Department for one year. On April 23, 2005 he fell out of his fire truck responding

Icard Fire District Receives New I.S.O. Rating After Inspection
9-25-2008
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Jim Long announced on
September 15, 2008 that the Icard Fire District completed its routine inspection and
received a 5 rating, effective Monday, December 1, 2008. The inspection, conducted by
officials with the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal ( OSFM ) , is
required on a regular basis as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System
( NCRRS ) . Among other things, the routine inspections look for proper staffing levels,
sufficient equipment, proper maintenance of equipment, communications capabilities
and the availablity of a water source.
The 5 rating is an improvement over the previous rating of 5 / 9S. The ( NCRRS ) rating
system ranges from 1 ( Highest ) to 10 ( Not recognized as a certified department by the
state, with most rural departments falling into the 9S category. While lower ratings do
not necessarily indicate poor service, a higher rating does suggest that a department is
overall better equipped to respond to fires in its district. Higher ratings can also
significantly lower homeowners insurance rates in that fire district.
hard work of all the departments members, " said Commissioner Long. " The citizens in
the Icard Fire District should rest easy knowing they have a fine group of firefighters
protecting them and their property in case of an emergency. "
State law requires ( OSFM ) officials to inspect departments serving districts of 100,000
people or less, which makes up all but 6 departments of the state's fire districts.
