To the left you see a firefighter wearing a ( SCBA ) Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus. This device enables
firefighters to safely be involved in fire suppression
and overhaul activities without being exposed to
carcinogenic smoke and other airborne toxins. At
Icard Fire we have Scott brand ( SCBA's).( SCBA's ) are
checked daily by firefighters to ensure proper
operation.
When a firefighter has been motionless
for 20 - 30 seconds the pass alarm will
start indicating by gradually alarming
from a low proceeding tone, to a high
tone. If the firefighter does not move, the
pass alarm will lock on the high tone.
This is to enable the PASS system to
alert other firefighters that there is a
PASS system to alert other firefighters
that there is a the high tone has started
alerting the only way to stop the alarm is
manually. The pass alarm can also be
activated manually by pressing a button
on the shoulder pass control device.
Click on the picture above to hear audio from a Scott SCBA being turned on.

Pictured to the left is a firefighter who has a Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus donned. A firefighter
wears a mask which is secured by a device that is
worn on top of the head under the helmet and is
secured by 4 adjustable straps. The mask has a large
viewing area to enable the firefighter to see more and is
equipped with a voice amplifier to make communication
easier.
A hose supplied by the ( SCBA ) connects to a regulator
on the mask which provides air from the SCBA itself to
the mask so the firefighter can breath. When a
firefighter is prepared to breath air they place the
regulator to the mask and perform a 1/4 turn which
locks it, then inhale which starts air flow. More air can
be provided if the firefighter needs so by a red purge
valve on the mask.
The Scott face mask also has the Vibralert safety
feature. At the early stages of a firefighter beginning to
run out of breathing air this feature will gently vibrate
the regulator which is located on the face mask which
alerts the firefighter. Some of our newer ( SCBA's )
have the ( HUD ) Heads Up Display. This enables
firefighters to view their breathing air level without
looking on the shoulder strap.

To the left you see a firefighter's bunker coat. To
the top you see the letters (DRD). This stands for
"Drag Rescue Device" Also known as the Yocco
Strap. This device goes around the arms in a
figure 8 fasion and then exits behind the label
flap in a loop.
This device is to assist in the removal of downed
firefighters. Another firefighter can lift the flap
and deploy the device to remove a downed
firefighter from a dangerous situation. This
device is mandatory for all structural and
proximity gear per NFPA Standard 1971 - 2008
Section 6.1.9.1.
To the left is our Thermal Imaging Camera
locate hidden fires in walls, floors and other
confined spaces while having the ability to
indicate the temperature for that area in the
corner of the screen. A ( TIC ) is also a great
tool to locate downed firefighters or trapped
occupants in a structure or checking the
temperature of outlets or breaker panels. A (
TIC ) can also be used to aid rescuers in
locating individuals lost wooded areas, they are
now used by Law Enforcement Agencies,
Military Services, Contractors and the list goes
on. This device can also be set up to send
images to a remote monitor that can be viewed
by Incident Commanders.

To the left you can view an image taken by our
Scott Eagle Imager 2 ( TIC ). As you can tell the
image is of a person who is standing against
the wall. A ( TIC ) has the ability to detect
thermal energy as shown in the image. The
( TIC ) screen you notice TX which stands for
remote signaling, PWR / STBY which is a
button you press when not using the camera
to preserve the battery but still have the ability
to use it quickly, Full Color which changes the
color index of the camera from a choice of 5
colors and a temperature gauge. The bullseye
which is in the center of the screen indicates
the temperature of the area that it is placed on.
The other image of a hand is detected by the
( TIC ). I placed my hand on a block wall and
removed it and then used the Scott Eagle
Imager 2 to view it. As you can tell the heat that
transferred from my hand to the wall in as little
as 30 seconds was able to be detected by the
( TIC ).
